Ancient Times Print Masters

There was a time when color photographs were something still in development. In those times only lithography were the way to get colored massive printing. Some of the finest color reproduction were made in Europe and from Swiss printers we get this amazing color lithographs.

The lithography process is pretty simple:

A printing process in which the image to be printed is rendered on a flat surface, as on sheet zinc or aluminum, and treated to retain ink while the nonimage areas are treated to repel ink.

At the time plates made of stone were the basement to produce such reproductions.

For your visual pleasure we compile this amazing photos from a time were print was art and master printers were like medieval master….

Steampunk Sculptures… Inspiration Gallery from a age that never happen…

Author G. D. Falksen, wearing a steampunk-styled arm prosthesis (created by Thomas Willeford), exemplifying one take on steampunk fashion.

Acording to the wikipedia, the steampunk is:

Steampunk refers to a subgenre of science fiction and sometimes fantasy—also in recent years a fashion and lifestyle movement—that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrialsteam-powered machinery.[1][2] Although its literary origins are sometimes associated with the cyberpunkgenre, steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 19th century’s British Victorian era orAmerican “Wild West”, in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has maintained mainstream usage, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power. It may, therefore, be described as neo-Victorian. Steampunk is perhaps most recognisably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristicinventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them, and is likewise rooted in the era’s perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art. Such technology may include fictional machines like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or the modern authors Philip Pullman, Scott Westerfeld, Stephen Hunt and China Miéville. Other examples of steampunk contain alternative history-style presentations of such technology as lighter-than-air airships, analogue computers, or such digital mechanical computers as Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine.

Steampunk may also incorporate additional elements from the genres of fantasy, horror, historical fiction, alternate history, or other branches of speculative fiction, making it often a hybrid genre. The termsteampunk‘s first known appearance was in 1987, though it now retroactively refers to many works of fiction created even as far back as the 1950s or 1960s.

Steampunk also refers to any of the artistic styles, clothing fashions, or subcultures, that have developed from the aesthetics of steampunk fiction, Victorian-era fiction, art nouveau design, and films from the mid-20th century.[3]Various modern utilitarian objects have been modded by individual artisans into a pseudo-Victorian mechanical “steampunk” style, and a number of visual and musical artists have been described as steampunk.

La Sortie de l’opéra en l’an 2000 English: Print shows a futuristic view of air travel over Paris as people leave the Opera. Many types of aircraft are depicted including buses and limousines, police patrol the skies, and women are seen driving their own aircraft. 1 print : lithograph, hand-colored.

This genre is somewhat new, however the aesthetics were long developed, and thus the artist were really blessed by a century long tradition, also there was serveral pre-steampunkers – they tried to see how the XX century will look like, using their visual references or their era – as early as XIX century:

“Maison tournante aérienne” (aerial rotating house) by Albert Robida for his book Le Vingtième Siècle, a 19th-century conception of life in the 20th century

The Steampunk is about a time that never was, an age that only took place in our dreams, but it inspires art anyway and lot of artist create amazing pieces and creations that are amazing. Is about a retro-future world that will never ever happen – or unless the depletion of fossil fuels make us to return to steam one more time – or a romantic age that we all love to live, were inventions are still a way of create art.

Here we create an inspiration gallery to help artist and enthusiast to find some ideas to get started, designers can find here shapes and ideas to create a new project and the rest of us just can be amazed about this beautifull things.
